St Abbs Club Trip – Four Day Long Weekender
After a fantastic personal trip to St Abbs this year I’m very keen to organise a club trip to this stunning part of the country. Not only is there some incredible diving here, there are superb beaches, lovely walks and majestic castles to explore. The Farne islands are only about an hour away to the south which are known for there colonies of sea birds and the playful grey seals.
The diving is conducted in the beautiful St Abbs and Berwickshire marine reserve. Superb dive sites are within minutes of the harbour so you don’t have to go far to see what’s on offer.
Lying just over the Scottish boarder on the east coast the waters can have excellent visibility which makes the journey well worth it.
Expect to see fields of brittle stars, walls covered in dead man’s fingers, underwater arches, octopus, monkfish, nudibranks, schools of fish and maybe even the elusive wolf fish! As we are out on the water between dives we could be lucky enough to encounter dolphins during our break as well.
A particular favourite dive site of the group this year was anemone gullies which was a series of gullies absolutely covered in life it was outstanding. St Abbs is definitely more of a reef divers destination who are looking for something different than what they have seen on the south coast. If you are into photography this is a must!

CONSIDERATIONS
- You will need two cylinders on this weekend as we will not be coming back to shore in between dives.
- St Abbs is a very tidal harbour so getting onto the boat requires using a steep ladder, so please be aware of this.
- Air and nitrox on site.
- Food and drinks will be advisable to take with you for in between dives.
- Parking is available in St Abbs harbour at a cost of £5 for the day payable by card or cash.
ST ABBS CHARTERS
- We will be diving with skipper Danny on stabbscharters.com
- Air and nitrox is available on site.
- Toilet facilities on site
- Cafe on site.
COSTS AND PAYMENTS
If we do get 10 divers to charter the boat, the charter price is £550 so with 10 divers it will be £55 per person per day. This includes 2x boat dives. This will give us a bit extra room on the boat.
If we have less than 10 divers on any given day this is not a problem as I will just book those spaces, which will also be £55 per day for 2x boat dives but St Abbs Charters will look to fill the remaining spots themselves, up to a maximum of 12 divers. In essence we will have the boat to ourselves secured with 10 divers for the four days at £55 each or Danny will fill to 12 divers at £55 per day.
I will need a 50% deposit to secure your place and the balance 8 weeks before the trip.
CANCELATION
Should you cancel your space for any reason, you are still liable to pay the full price unless you or the organiser can find a suitable diver to fill your place.
ACCOMMODATION
You will need to organise your own accommodation for this weekend. St Abbs itself is limited, but there are plenty of options around Eyemouth which is about a 15 minute drive from St Abbs. Also Coldingham village would be worth checking out as its only a few minutes from the harbour. As we know dive trips can be cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances so it might be an idea to find an accommodation which offers a last minute cancellation.
