Porthkerris – Pre Autumn Wrecks and Reefs Long Weekend
Due to popular demand, we are back at Porthkerris in both July and September 2021.
One of our 2020 trips was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic and our second needed reorganising due to the Covid-19 guidelines implemented for hospitality and charter boats. Therefore and at these early stages of planning, we cannot confirm the type and style of diving, suffice to say we will look to charter the Celtic Cat for these three days.
Dates
Our September 2021 ‘Pre Autumn Fun’ weekend will take place over 17th, 18th and 19th September 2021. Although no neap tide weekends in September, these are the nearest dates with neaps are falling around the 15th and 16th.
Plan
The outline plan will be to charter the Celtic Cat for 10 divers for the further distant dive sites, with shuttle dives available on the Celtic Kitten. Should the same shuttle dive system be implemented on the Celtic Cat, then we will look to increase this to 12 divers, split 6 divers per group.
Skills
Most of the diving will be in the 25 metre to 30 metre ranges. Many of the local reefs are walls and pinnacles where you can choose your depth. Some of the further afield Cat sites maybe a little deeper, perhaps 32m to 35m maximum. You should be comfortable in diving average depths of around 25m to 30m to get the best out of Porthkerris. You will certainly need to carry and be proficient in deploying a DSMB and should carry a primary light and perhaps backup torch too. It would be an advantage to be Nitrox qualified to extend your bottom time as air can be limiting on NDL bottom times on some local wreck sites.
Planning
If we do charter the Celtic Cat, then we will not return to shore between dives. If diving a single cylinder, you will need two take two on board. If the Cat still operates as a shuttle, then like the Kitten we only need one cylinder that can be refilled during your surface interval. Porthkerris has a gas room on site for refills.
Accommodation
There is plenty of accommodation at Porthkerris, including camping, chalets and a log cabin that sleeps 8. Other accommodation options are available in St Keverne, Porthallow or Coverack.
Price
The price for this weekend needs to be confirmed as charter prices and shuttle prices are different, not withstanding there maybe an increase in 2020 pricing. That said, you will be looking at two dives per day and budget around £120.00 to £150.00 for two days and £180.00 to £225.00 for three days. This price is for diving only and will exclude gas, accommodation, transport, food and drink.
