Dover Mid-Week Neap Tide Double Wrecker – FULL
Tide tables for Dover have not been with us so far this year. However on Wednesday 5th May we have a neap tide and two high tides that will allow a double slack wreck diving window. We will be diving with Mutiny Divers aboard dive boat Maverick.
We are planning this to be a U-Boat and treasure day, targets being the WWI UB-55 (1918) and the SS Latona (1876) cargo ship. Both vessels within the 30m depth range and with a relaxing 09.30am Ropes Off for the morning ‘clean’ tide, this is a really easy one-day day trip.
Depths are prime for a little decompression and we suggest a 32% Nitrox mix for dive one on the submarine, then a lunchtime air top up for dove two.
Although this is not an official club dive, spaces are available to non club members.
Prices are £50.00 per dive, so £100.00 for both dives of the day.
The two compartments flooded instantly and the U-Boat ended up on the bottom of the seabed at 30 metres. Engineer Dietrich attempted to shut the watertight door between the engine room and the torpedo room, but it proved to be impossible. Everytime he nearly managed to close it, it was forced back by the flooding water. Water jetted inside inside and the men were thrown off their feet.
Lights went out and the survivors were forced to use headlamps. With the the rising water, the internal pressure increased, which lead to immense headaches. Breathing also became more difficult and painful. The penetration of seawater into the battery compartments led to a leakage of chorine gas. Panic started and two crewmen tried to commit suicide with a pistol, but did not succeed as the cartridges were damp.
We’ll look to meet half an hour before Ropes Off in the Dover Marina Car Park. You will need a one day car park pass which is available from the Harbour Office. I cannot recall, about £6.00 or £8.00 for the day. Say you are diving on Maverick. Ask for the toilet keycode.
