SUMMARY:Plymouth September
DESCRIPTION:The club has chartered the Venture Divers for the weekend 20/21 September 2025. Full details will be published nearer the dates bu there are ten places each day and divers will be required to pay £30 per day, so it’s basically half price diving. The skipper, Pete Fergus, has been running dive charters in Plymouth for many years and knows the site locations very well.\n\nMinimum qualification PADI Open water or equivalent, max depth will be 30m. It would provide a great chance to progress to open water diving but all divers must be able to deploy DSMBs, a necessary skill for open water diving. If you need to practice this skill the club runs sessions at Vobster which provides a good practice venue.\n\nPlymouth is one of the premier dive destinations in the UK and its location and topography makes it possible to dive under most weather conditions. There are a plethora of dive sites ranging from wrecks such as HMS Scylla, the James Egan Lane and Persier. Details of the wrecks can be found at www.divernet.com.\n\nFor those who prefer more scenic dives there are many great sites to observe underwater life and its lomg maritime history makes it possible to find the odd bit of ‘treasure’ whilst roaming the seabed!! Some of the sites provide great opportunities for underwater photography and there is always plenty of undersea life to see throughout your dive.\n\nThe Eddystone lighthouse, reachable if the weather is probably the best reef sites in the Plymouth area.\n\nAccommodation\nhere is accommodation to suit all pockets in Plymouth. Unfortunately the Mountbatten Centre will be closed for refurbishment when we are there. There are chain type locations, Premier Inn, Travelodge etc; a quick search on the Internet should find something suitable. There are numerous Airbnbs as well as hotels and guest houses.\nThere is a Premier Inn on the East side of Plymouth and, although it is not in the city centre, it means not having to drive through the town to get to the Yacht Haven. if enough of us stay there it should be possible to hire a minibus to take us into the town and return later in the evening (In Plymouth taxis are at a premium after closing time!!). I will post more information nearer the time.\n
